To prevent famine in Gaza, aid deliveries must increase significantly, but the shallow waters off the coast are not suitable for large ships. To address this issue, the USA is building an artificial harbor to facilitate the delivery of aid supplies. The construction of the entire project is set to be completed in early May.
While there has been improvement in the import of humanitarian aid into Gaza, a further increase in aid deliveries is necessary to avert famine. The international community is urging Israel to open up additional routes for aid delivery. In response to the humanitarian crisis, the USA is constructing a new route for aid supplies in the Mediterranean by building a floating platform off the coast of Gaza.
The floating port will allow for large deliveries of relief goods to be transported to Gaza. Goods will first be brought to Cyprus before being transported to the floating pier off the coast of Gaza. From there, they will be transferred to trucks and then taken by smaller ships to a new port facility on the beach in Gaza. The construction of the entire project is set to be completed in early May.
Aid organizations stress the importance of being able to deliver supplies safely through all possible routes and crossings in order to effectively address the famine risk in Gaza. While security threats from Hamas and incidents like
