The aging process presents challenges for the Fairbanks area, and in honor of Older Americans Month, Foundation Health Partners and the Fairbanks North Star Borough are hosting a summit on the theme ‘Age-Friendly Fairbanks.’ The goal is to continuously improve on being age-friendly by examining the built environment and social environment, including housing, transportation, access to healthcare, and recreation.
The summit kicks off with a luncheon on Thursday and continues with a full day of activities and demonstrations at the Carlson Center on Friday. The focus will be on healthy and active living for the over-50 community, with various speakers leading workshops on topics such as arthritis and dementia care. The level of volunteerism in organizing the summit showcases Fairbanks’ commitment to caring for its aging population.
Foundation Health Partners’ Community Partnership Manager, Carol Anthony, emphasized the importance of creating an age-friendly community and how this event highlights the community’s dedication to supporting older adults. For more information, visit the Foundation Health Partners website.
