The Edgartown select board has approved Carlos Gomes Teles Filho’s liquor license application for his new restaurant, Seagrass Bar and Grill. The establishment will take over the former Sharky’s Cantina on Upper Main street, with renovation work ongoing since the closure of the Brazilian bakery in 2022 due to lease issues.
During the board meeting, Mr. Teles discussed his plans to offer a menu consisting of pub food like burgers, pizza, and seafood at the new restaurant. However, he did not provide a specific opening date for Seagrass Bar and Grill.
In addition to his new venture, Mr. Teles also owns a landscaping company and two other dining establishments on Martha’s Vineyard – Square Rigger in Edgartown and Nina’s Dine and Dash in Vineyard Haven. Despite being unavailable for comment after the meeting, the new restaurant owner received positive feedback from the select board members who voted in favor of the establishment.
Board member Michael Donroma was absent from the meeting, but Margaret Serpa and Arthur Smadbeck both expressed their support for the new restaurant. Ms. Serpa commented on the revitalization of the space, expressing confidence in its success moving forward. Following the vote, Mr. Smadbeck wished Mr. Teles good luck with his new endeavor, to which the restaurateur responded with a light-hearted remark about needing all the luck he can get.
