Golf prodigy Kris Kim is making waves on the PGA Tour after becoming the youngest player to make the cut in nine years at just 16 years old. He surpassed the record set by Jordan Spieth in 2010 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he shot a three-under-68 and a four-under-67 in the first two rounds, showcasing his impressive talent and skill on the course.
Despite feeling nervous on the final hole as he shot a birdie putt to make it, Kim expressed his enjoyment of the experience. He credits his mother, Ji-Hyun Suh, a former professional golfer, for introducing him to the sport at a young age. Suh now serves as his swing coach and Kim attributes his love for golf to watching her compete on the LPGA Tour in the 1990s.
Kim has already had success in his amateur career, winning championships like the Boys’ Amateur Championship, European Boys’ Individual Championship, and McGregor Trophy last year. Now he has made a successful transition to the PGA Tour and currently sits in a tie for 36th place, seven shots behind overnight leader Jake Knapp.
As Kim prepares for the third round of the tournament, his accomplishment has drawn attention from the golfing world. Meanwhile, three-time major winner Spieth failed to make it due to a wrist injury. Kim’s journey on the PGA Tour is just beginning and he will continue to showcase his talent and potential as he competes against some of the world’s best golfers.
