Korean Scientist’s Donation Supports Vietnam’s Advancement in Semiconductors and AI

During a recent visit to South Korea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with 15 experts and scientists to discuss how Vietnam can develop its semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors. Dr. Chang Joon-Yeon of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) emphasized the importance of government commitment to the semiconductor industry, highlighting the role played by the Korean government in funding the Semiconductor Research Center. He also stressed the need for trained experts and scientists in this field.

Professor Lim Jung-Wook of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) noted that Vietnam has a strong advantage in human resources but should invest in training elite human resources for the semiconductor industry. Professor Jeong Moon-seok of Hanyang University warned about other countries attracting semiconductor human resources with attractive policies, while Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat focused on cooperation with KIST and Korea in AI technology development.

The minister highlighted ongoing cooperation plans and research areas such as brain-simulating chips, artificial neural networks, and quantum computing. He emphasized the need to nurture talented individuals in Vietnam and develop them into semiconductor experts through research and development. Meanwhile, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung discussed strategies for attracting investments in semiconductors and AI, including plans to train 50,000 semiconductor human resources by 2030. Viettel’s Chairman Tao Duc Thang expressed interest in working with Korean enterprises on developing these industries further.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Korean experts for their advice and emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to developing high-value industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence. He discussed government policies and projects in these sectors, highlighting inter-governmental cooperation with South Korea on semiconductor and AI development as crucial for achieving this goal.
