The World’s Most Liveable City in 2024: Vienna Tops the List – See the Top Ten Cities

Vienna is known for its rich cultural heritage, including classical music, the grand Imperial Palace of Hofburg, and world-class museums. But what sets the city apart from others is its high quality of life. For the third consecutive year, Vienna has been named the most liveable city in the world according to The Global Liveability Index.

The report, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, ranks 173 cities based on various factors related to quality of life. Vienna received perfect scores in all categories except for culture and environment. This shows that the city offers excellent living conditions across different aspects such as housing availability, crime rates, and road quality.

Vienna is not alone in its ranking among Western European cities. Copenhagen and Zürich followed closely behind Vienna in the rankings, with Geneva and Calgary tying for fifth place. Other top-ranking cities included Sydney, Vancouver, Osaka, and Auckland. The report highlighted Canada and Switzerland as countries with multiple cities in the top ten.

Those interested in learning more about the most (and least) liveable cities can download the full report on the EIU website. Additionally, Vienna is poised to surpass France as the world’s most visited destination, and the top airlines for 2024 have recently been named.
