Venezuela has just won the Group B at Copa América for the second time in their history, with their first victory occurring in 2007. This marks the first time they have won all three of their group stage matches. Salomón Rondón, Venezuela’s all-time leading scorer, scored his 43rd international goal to help lead his team to this historic achievement.
Jamaica is still struggling to keep up, as they have yet to earn a point at Copa América and are winless in nine games. The all-time matchup between Jamaica and Venezuela now stands at 1-8 in favor of Venezuela.
Ecuador also made it through to the quarterfinals but as the runner-up in Group B. They have now reached this stage at three of the last four editions of Copa América, after going out in the group stage at six straight tournaments. Mexico, on the other hand, has failed to advance three times when needing a win in the final group game. This is Mexico’s first time being eliminated in the group stage after starting off with a victory.
Mexico and Ecuador have had a storied rivalry at Copa América, having met four times before this matchup, with Mexico leading the all-time matchup. For more coverage on Copa América, visit FOX Sports and follow your favorite teams for updates on game information and news.
