Urbana Park District’s New Health and Wellness Center at Prairie Park: A Game Changer for the Community

The Urbana Park District’s new health and wellness center at Prairie Park is set to open in January 2025, according to Executive Director Tim Bartlett. Bartlett is excited about the facility’s impending completion, as well as the opportunity to train staff and address any issues that may arise. The $16.1 million building project has been on track, with construction expected to be completed by late August.

Outdoor landscaping will begin in mid-August, although potential delays could occur due to extreme weather conditions. Bartlett mentioned that the district plans to finalize a punch list before relocating staff from the Brookens Administrative Center to the health and wellness center. Additionally, the district is considering Phase 2 outdoor amenities, such as trail connections, an outdoor playground, a sprayground, and a skatepark. Funding for these amenities is uncertain, but Bartlett expressed hope that they will be completed successfully following the construction of the health and wellness center.

Bartlett emphasized that this new facility will have a significant impact on the Urbana community by enhancing recreational opportunities for residents and developing a comprehensive wellness program that benefits everyone in town. With continued progress and support from local organizations like the Urbana Parks Foundation, Bartlett believes that the new health and wellness center at Prairie Park will become a valuable asset for Urbana residents in years to come.
