The township of Edison is planning to renovate and upgrade sports courts at nine parks by the end of summer. Bids for the project are currently being sought, with a deadline of April 30th. Once the bids are reviewed and approved by the township council, work will begin on repairing and resurfacing sports courts at various parks including Bernard L. Dwyer Park, Minnie B. Veal/Elder Park, Hale Park, Yelencsics Park, Winter Street Park, Central Avenue Park, Paterniti Park, Thomas Swales Park, and the North Eighth Avenue tennis courts.
The scope of work includes clearing and grading the areas surrounding the sports courts, removing existing features such as benches and fences, paving over damaged areas with new asphalt base courses and surface courses. In addition to these repairs, new pickleball and tennis posts and nets will be installed along with basketball posts and goals. A color surfacing system will also be added to improve safety for athletes while playing on these surfaces. Finally, line striping will be done to enhance visibility for players during games.
