The Day of Remembrance has brought attention to a tragic period in history that was previously shrouded in silence and indifference. This year, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed the citizens directly, acknowledging their pain and emphasizing the need to remember the innocent victims and ask for forgiveness for the past silence of the Republic’s institutions.

The solemn ceremony in Basovizza on the day of commemoration of the foibe massacres and of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus was a powerful reminder of the tragic events that occurred in the country’s eastern border. The government expressed its commitment to ensuring that the memory of these events never fades away.

Established in 2004, the Day of Remembrance holds significant importance in acknowledging the painful history and honoring the innocent victims. This year, government officials and ministers also participated in various events to pay tribute to the victims and ensure that their stories are remembered.
