Belgian e-commerce federation Becom is calling for urgent measures to address the unfair competition between Chinese and European webshops. They are advocating for customs enforcement to be strengthened, and for Chinese companies that do not adhere to regulations to be penalized and potentially shut down.
The managing director of Becom, Greet Dekocker, highlights the issue of bundled parcels from China that cannot be thoroughly checked in Europe, creating loopholes in compliance. The federation is calling for adjustments to European regulations to enable more effective checks on Chinese imports. They are proposing additional information requirements for Chinese manufacturers and platforms, as well as increased customs scrutiny in Belgium to level the playing field for European webshops.
