Jon Stewart Makes a Comeback on Television with a Smaller, Older Audience

The landscape of television has undergone significant changes since last we reported. Multiple generations are forsaking traditional TV in favor of streaming services such as Netflix or social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok.

Those who still tune in to TV are an aging and dwindling group, as evidenced by data from Nielsen. In 2015, the network attracted a massive audience of 103 million people per night, but that number has since dropped to just 57 million viewers. Furthermore, the median age of TV watchers has jumped from 51 to 62 years old.

Nielsen’s data also reveals a decline in average viewership across both prime-time and late-night TV since 2015, particularly among young adult viewers. The median age of the remaining TV viewers continues to rise as well.

Despite these trends, it remains uncertain how Stewart and his fans will navigate this changing landscape.
