Delta Center in SLC slated for major renovation in proposed sports district plan

The Delta Center in Salt Lake City could see a revitalized entrance thanks to plans for a new sports and entertainment district in the area. The ownership group of the Utah Jazz and the recently acquired NHL franchise in Utah is proposing a significant overhaul of downtown Salt Lake City to create this district.

During a presentation to the Salt Lake City Council, SEG executive Mike Maughan outlined the plans for the district, stating that renovations to the Delta Center would begin in April if the proposal moves forward. The goal of the project is to provide downtown gathering spaces for the community and offer benefits to residents, even if they don’t attend events at the arena or other venues in the district.

SEG, under the leadership of Ryan Smith, has committed to investing at least $3 billion of its own money in the district, which is planned for the two blocks east of the Delta Center.
