Tragic Combine Harvester Accident Investigated: Determining Responsibility for the Death of a Farmer

The investigation into the terrible combine harvester accident that took place in Hohen Luckow on August 19, 2023, is now being handled by the public prosecutor’s office. The main focus of the investigation is to determine whether any of the three individuals present at the time of the accident can be held responsible for a criminal breach of duty. The investigation is still ongoing, with reports and interviews from the accident victim, his colleague, and the young woman who was operating the combine harvester being evaluated.

The young farmer and his two colleagues were harvesting together in a field when a grain hopper in their combine harvester became blocked. Unable to fix it immediately, they decided to keep running the machine while they searched for help. However, this decision ultimately led to a tragic outcome as the victim’s legs were pulled into the screw conveyor and amputated during an emergency operation conducted by top surgeons following the accident.

Despite suffering serious injuries, including losing both legs, four months after the accident, police were finally able to interview the victim who confirmed that he did not want to press charges against anyone involved in his condition. It was also revealed that it was quick actions of his colleague who pressed emergency stop button on time which saved his life.

As authorities continue their investigation into what caused this tragic incident and how it could have been prevented in future incidents like this one may occur again.
