Tragic Accident Leaves Howard University Community in Shock: An Examination of the Fatal Car Crash Involving Faculty Member Dr. Kamal Agarwal

Howard University School of Business Dean Dr. Anthony Wilbon expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Mohamed Samura, who tragically passed away on April 15 after being struck in a fatal car crash involving a faculty member from the school. The faculty member involved in the accident was identified as Dr. Kamal Agarwal, a professor in the Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences at Howard University.

According to reports from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Agarwal, 72, was driving at a high rate of speed on 6th Street NW and Fairmont on April 11 when he failed to negotiate a left turn, striking Samura, an 18-year-old freshman at Howard University. Despite declining to comment on the incident due to his health, Agarwal is currently recovering at home.

The MPD is currently conducting an investigation into the fatal crash, and a lawyer representing Samura’s family has confirmed that the investigation is still underway. However, it is not yet clear whether Agarwal will return to teaching after his recovery or if there will be changes to traffic signage near Cook Hall.

The School of Business held meetings following the car crash and Samura’s death with Samura’s business orientation team and close friends, as well as School of Business faculty and staff. Wilbon encouraged everyone impacted by the tragedy to seek professional help in their time of grief.

Agarwal has been teaching at Howard University for 23 years and specializes in information systems, network and internet security, and related areas according to his university profile.
