LEWISTOWN, PA – When it comes to finding the perfect hat to wear to the races, fashionistas suggest keeping your head held high with a stylish finishing touch to your outfit. Colette Hartzler, executive director of the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, agrees with this sentiment but also believes that fancier hats are even better.
Hartzler hopes to see plenty of fancy headwear at the upcoming Night at the Races on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, at the Moose Family Center in Lewistown. She and her assistant Kenda Haas attended last year’s event at the Lewistown Country Club and were impressed by its fun and excitement. They hope to bring that same energy back this year for fundraising purposes.
Night at the Races is popular because it allows guests to experience the thrill of horse racing without leaving their seats. The event will feature a Kentucky Derby hat contest, Just Ducky elimination game, live auction race and 50/50 raffle. Guests can purchase tickets for $40 per person or $75 per table which includes a horse, food and one drink. A cash bar will also be available.
“It seemed like a lot of people were having a good time,” said Hartzler. “Especially if you sponsor a table and then you can have all your friends sitting with you.” The fancy hat contest adds an extra layer of excitement to the evening and encourages guests to get creative with their outfits.
The United Way hopes that Night at the Races will turn out to be a rousing success financially as well as fun-filled evening for all attendees. For more information about Night at the Races or how to purchase tickets visit www
