In the past week, a third person has been arrested in connection with the Just Stop Oil protest at Stonehenge. The police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Essex in relation to the incident. During the protest, climate activists defaced the famous rock formation of Stonehenge with orange paint. Two people were immediately arrested after the protest – a man in his 70s and a woman in her 20s – before being released on bail.
After the protest, experts worked quickly to remove the orange powder from the stones in order to prevent any damage to the rare lichens that grow on them. While the paint did not cause any visible damage, there is concern that the process of removing the stains could potentially erode the fragile stones or harm the lichens.
