Thunder to reportedly sign Bismack Biyombo, adding to their frontcourt presence

The Oklahoma City Thunder made a surprising move at the trade deadline by acquiring Gordon Hayward instead of a big man. Given their potential deep playoff run in a competitive Western Conference, it seemed logical for them to prioritize bolstering their frontcourt.

Despite his skill, rookie Chet Holmgren can be overpowered physically, making it important for the Thunder to add size and strength. This led to the signing of free-agent center Bismack Biyombo by the Thunder. Biyombo may not contribute much offensively but he brings valuable defensive skills, rim protection, rebounding, and bulk in the paint. He previously played 30 games for the Memphis Grizzlies this season, starting 27 games due to injuries on the team, before being waived a month ago. With the Thunder, he is expected to play important regular season and playoff minutes.

Biyombo has signed a guaranteed contract through the rest of the season, agreeing to a veteran minimum deal. This move is aimed at strengthening the Thunder’s frontcourt presence and solidifying their playoff prospects in a tough Western Conference.
