Nurse at Sanford Hospital Retires After Six Decades of Dedicated Service

Carol Wieneke, a beloved friend to everyone at Sanford Health, has spent 60 years working as an LPN at Sanford Luverne. She is known for caring deeply about her patients and staff and treating every person as family. After three years of working together, Vicki Nelson retired, and Carol has been reflecting on her time at the facility.

Throughout her six decades there, Carol has learned to find joy in the simple moments and to always choose to see the good in her work. She believes that if people don’t enjoy their work, they won’t do it well. For Carol, her niche has been people – she is known for caring deeply about them and treating them with kindness and compassion.

Cheryl Groen, one of Carol’s colleagues who has worked with her for 13 years, spoke highly of Carol’s character. “Carol truly cares about her patients and staff,” said Groen. “She treats every person as though they were part of her family.”

While it may be difficult to say goodbye forever, Groen knows that Carol will always be her friend forever. She will continue to stop by to volunteer at the hospital and check in with everyone from time to time. Groen admires Carol’s reputation for keeping her word and being a loyal friend.
