The Chiefs made several roster moves on Friday, including the release of wide receivers Anthony Miller and Shi Smith, as well as defensive end Jordan Smith. While these players may have had their own unique paths to the NFL, they all share one thing in common – their time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Miller, 29, signed a futures contract with the team on January 23 after spending time with several other teams since his second-round selection by the Bears in 2018. In his 50 career games, he recorded 140 catches for 1,589 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, he has not played a game since 2021.
Shi Smith, who signed a futures deal with the team on January 17, was also a sixth-round pick by the Panthers in 2021. He played just two seasons with Carolina and made 28 receptions for 400 yards and two touchdowns before being released in December. Similarly, Jordan Smith, 26, has only played two career games – both with the Jaguars in 2021 – and recorded just one tackle before being released earlier this year. He was a fourth-round pick of Jacksonville in 2021.
The Chiefs also withdrew a tender offer for exclusive rights free agent Cole Christiansen, who played six games with the team over the past two seasons. Christiansen began his career with the Chargers in 2020 before being traded to Kansas City in March of that same year.
