At the first Diamond League meeting of the season in Xiamen, China, Sweden’s Armand Duplantis broke his eighth world record in pole vaulting. The 24-year-old cleared the bar at 6.24 meters, a historic feat that put him eight centimeters ahead of anyone else in the discipline. Not only did Duplantis showcase his dominance, but he also surpassed his competitors by more than 40 centimeters. He celebrated with his team and the crowd as he effortlessly cleared every vault on his first attempt, even sailing over his record-breaking one.
While Duplantis has already achieved great success in pole vaulting, he is determined to continue pushing his limits and be dominant in the sport. In an interview with CNN in April, he expressed his desire to win every competition and give his best at every meet. As the Paris Olympic Games approach, Duplantis made it clear that he hasn’t reached his peak yet and is still looking to improve.
Meanwhile, Christian Coleman from the USA won the men’s 100 meters race at the Diamond League meeting, followed closely by fellow American Fred Kerley and Jamaican sprinter Ackeem Blake. In a thrilling women’s 200 meters race, 19-year-old Torrie Lewis surprised everyone by winning her first Diamond League victory, while USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson finished second after a strong push from Australian contender.
