Owner of Funeral Home in Morgan County Speaks Out After Radar-Confirmed Tornado Destroys Business

On Tuesday afternoon, a radar-confirmed tornado touched down near Sunbright. Although there were no reported injuries, several businesses suffered significant damage from the tornado, including Schubert Funeral Home.

Billy Glen Kennedy, owner of Schubert Funeral Home, received a call from a friend informing him that his beloved funeral home was destroyed by the tornado. Kennedy, who has worked at the funeral home for 40 years and owned it for the last 11 years, expressed his shock at the damage caused by the tornado.

Although Kennedy heard a tornado warning earlier in the day, he did not think much of it as there was minimal wind or rain at his home just four miles away. Upon arriving at the funeral home and seeing the devastation, Kennedy expressed gratitude that no one was hurt in the tornado.

Despite the damage to his business and personal belongings, Kennedy emphasized that material things can be replaced and that safety is paramount. He noted that friends and members of the Sunbright community have offered their support, which he appreciates.

Kennedy mentioned that it is uncertain when Schubert Funeral Home will reopen but services will continue in Wartburg. He urged people to keep Sunbright in their thoughts and thanked everyone for their support during this difficult time.
