Supporting Mental Health in the Wake of the Juneteenth Shooting in Round Rock: Resources and Encouragement from Crisis Response Unit Program Manager Annie Burwell

In the aftermath of the shooting at a Juneteenth event at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, the City of Round Rock is taking steps to support the mental health of those affected by the tragedy. Annie Burwell, the Crisis Response Unit Program Manager, encourages everyone to prioritize their mental health and take advantage of the resources available to them in order to begin the healing process as a community.

The Round Rock Fire Department’s Crisis Response Unit is available during extended hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from June 16 through June 21. They can be reached by calling 512-218-5501. Team members will answer calls, provide guidance and education, and can set up in-person appointments if needed.

In addition to the CRU’s extended office hours, outside resources are also available for those who need support. The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Disaster Distress Helpline is available 24/7 to U.S. residents and offers support in multiple languages via phone or text at 1-800-985-5990.

Burwell emphasizes that it’s important for individuals and families affected by this tragedy to reach out for help and utilize these resources as they work towards healing and recovery.

“We want everyone to know that they are not alone,” said Burwell “We are here for them, and we will continue to offer support until they are ready to move forward.”
