As part of its efforts to ensure national security during times of conflict, the Ministry of Defense in Israel recently signed a contract with Elbit Maarahot for the purchase of large quantities of ammunition for its ground forces. The contract, which spans several years and is valued at 2.8 billion shekels, will be used to meet the needs of the armed forces. The production of the ammunition will take place at Elbit’s factories in Israel.
Since the outbreak of war, the Ministry of Defense has allocated 63 billion shekels towards arms purchases. In line with its policy to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, the ministry has placed orders worth around 40 billion shekels with Israeli manufacturers. This investment is aimed at strengthening the domestic defense industry and ensuring self-sufficiency in times of crisis.
Given the urgent need for ammunition, defense enterprises are working at full capacity. In response to this demand, the Ministry of Defense has requested that the Land Administration delay the dismantling of an Elbit plant in Ramat Hasharon, which is scheduled to move to the Negev. Both manufacturing plants are expected to operate in parallel to meet the demand for ammunition. This strategic move highlights the importance of maintaining a strong industrial base in Israel to support national security goals.
Overall, this contract represents a significant investment in Israel’s defense capabilities and underscores its commitment to protecting itself against external threats.
