South Africa emerged victorious in a hard-fought match against India at the 2009 Men’s T20 World Cup in Nottingham. The Proteas avenged their previous loss to India, which had occurred in a Group E contest.
Both teams had advanced to the second round of the tournament without a loss. However, India faced setbacks with three consecutive defeats, preventing them from advancing to the Semi-Finals. In contrast, South Africa had set a target of 131 runs in challenging conditions, thanks to an impressive innings from AB de Villiers who scored 63 runs off 51 balls.
India’s bowlers including Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja each managed to pick up a wicket. However, South Africa’s bowlers dominated the Indian batting lineup. Johan Botha and Dale Steyn led the charge, with Botha taking three wickets and Steyn finishing with figures of 2/25. Their strong bowling performance helped South Africa secure a 12-run victory over India in a thrilling match that was played under tough conditions.
