The Bend Park and Recreation District is preparing for its fall youth sports programs with deadlines fast approaching. Although summer has only just begun, parents and guardians are being encouraged to sign up now to ensure their children can participate in activities such as youth soccer, kindergarten soccer, flag football, and middle school tennis this autumn.
Becky Rexford, the sports programs manager at the district, stated that fall is one of the busiest seasons for youth sports activities in Bend. Soccer and flag football regularly set participation records during this time of year. To avoid missing out on the chance to enjoy great autumn Saturdays and Sundays, parents and guardians need to be aware of the registration deadlines in July and August.
The registration deadlines for fall youth sport programs are as follows: youth soccer (Grades 1st-8th) – July 8 or until full, kindergarten soccer – July 8 or until full, flag football (Grades 1st-8th) – July 29 or until full, and middle school tennis – August 13 or until full. These programs offer a fun recreational environment where children can develop their skills through participation. Recreation scholarships are also available for those who need them.
Volunteer coaches play a vital role in youth sports leagues, supporting program logistics, coaching, and mentoring young athletes. All volunteer coaches must complete an application, undergo a background check, complete concussion training, enjoy working with youth, and create a positive and encouraging recreational environment for players.
