McCarty, who played three seasons with the Red Sox and was part of the curse-breaking 2004 World Series championship team, is survived by his wife, Monica, and their children, Reid and Maxine.

During his 11-year MLB career, McCarty played first base and outfield for seven different teams, including the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Oakland Athletics. In total, he played 630 games throughout his career. After retiring from baseball, McCarty worked as a Red Sox TV analyst for New England Sports Network.

His former teammate, Lenny DiNardo, took to social media to pay tribute to McCarty, calling him a great guy and expressing his sadness over the news of his passing. The baseball community is also mourning the loss of McCarty, especially those who had the privilege of knowing and playing with him.
