WBC president expels Ryan Garcia following racist online outburst

Boxer Ryan Garcia was recently arrested for felony vandalism in Beverly Hills. The World Boxing Council has expelled him from the organization due to his controversial social media behavior, where he used racial slurs and made derogatory comments about George Floyd. In addition to being expelled from the WBC, Garcia is also serving a year-long suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission for testing positive for a banned substance before his April fight against Devin Haney.

Garcia’s publicist and representatives from Golden Boy Promotions, his management company, did not respond immediately to requests for comments about the WBC’s decision. Prior to his fight with Haney, questions were raised about Garcia’s mental state due to his erratic behavior online. Despite defeating Haney in the match, the victory was later changed to a “no contest” due to the positive drug test. The WBC offered Garcia assistance with mental health and substance abuse issues, but he declined multiple times.

In another incident last month, Garcia was arrested at a hotel in Beverly Hills for causing more than $15,000 in damages to a guest room and hallway. These series of events have caused concern among fans and the boxing community about Garcia’s well-being.
