Rutgers Equine Science Center hosts 2023 Equine Marketplace Summit

Manalapan, NJ — The Rutgers Equine Science Center hosted the 2023 New Jersey Equine Marketplace Summit Thursday (March 16). The concentrate of the summit was to help present superior horse care by way of evaluation and education to assure the correctly-becoming of the equine company.

Dr. Karyn Malinowski, Director of the Equine Science Center, started the summit off by welcoming Secretary Douglas Fisher, New Jersey Division of Agriculture. Secretary Fisher reiterated Gov. Murphy’s interest in the equine company and his efforts to continue to help the horse racing company.

Dr. Alisa Hebst gave a report on the 2022 Equine Desires Assessment Survey just just before Keynote speaker Dr. Jill Stowe took the stage.

Dr. Stowe, Professor of Agricultural Economics and Director of Undergraduate Analysis for the Equine Science and Management degree program at the University of Kentucky, gave a presentation on Economic Evaluation of Equine Operations. The presentation focused on techniques to lessen charges for horse and horse farm owners.

Just just before the lunch break Jim Gagliano, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Jockey Club, gave a quick summary of the present state of Thoroughbred racing in the United States touching on the troubles racing at the moment faces. He also discussed the implementation of HISA in the Thoroughbred company.

Mike Tanner, Executive Vice President/CEO of the USTA, followed Gagliano with the state of Standardbred racing in the United States. Tanner focused some of his speech on the present troubles the USTA has with the implementation of HISA.
