Lukashenko goes against Putin, claims terrorists escaping to Belarus

Russian security service head Alexander Bortnikov has accused Ukrainian and Western secret services of facilitating the attack in Moscow last Friday, which resulted in 139 deaths and was claimed by the jihadist group Islamic State. Ukraine has denied any involvement in the attack and dismissed Russia’s accusations as lies. However, Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko challenged Russia’s narrative by stating that the terrorists initially tried to flee to Belarus, not Ukraine.

Both Vladimir Putin and his government continue to point fingers at Ukraine and the West for providing a “window” for the attackers to cross the border, despite the area being highly guarded due to its proximity to a war zone. Lukashenko, a close ally of Putin, stated that Belarus and Russia coordinated actions to intercept the suspects’ car as it fled towards the border with Ukraine and Belarus.

Bortnikov reiterated his belief in an international conspiracy against Russia, stating that the attack was orchestrated by radical Islamists with the help of Western and Ukrainian special services. He also mentioned that the suspects planned to travel to Ukraine and be received as heroes. Despite these claims, no evidence has been provided to support these accusations. The FSB head also mentioned that the identity of the person who ordered the attack has not yet been determined.

The comments made by Patrushev and Bortnikov reflect Kremlin’s narrative aimed at justifying potential escalations in conflict between Russia and Ukraine. With news of eight suspects in preventive prison and a Kyrgyz-born man possibly involved in mass shooting tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to escalate further.

Russia appears determined to assert its influence over Ukraine, potentially leading to further conflict despite international pressure calling for de-escalation efforts. The situation remains tense as both countries continue their military buildup along their borders while engaging in diplomatic talks on resolving their differences peacefully.
