Centennial Medical Group and Roseburg’s CHI Mercy Health are set to eliminate 18 jobs over the next month, with a focus on leadership support roles. This move is being described as a restructuring effort by the organizations. According to Russell Woolley, CEO and President of Mercy Health, financial pressures and challenges within the health system have led to this “difficult but necessary” decision.
With about 1,300 employees between the hospital and medical group, this reduction in the workforce follows a similar action taken last spring, which resulted in 50 full-time employees losing their jobs at Mercy Health. Leadership at the hospital is encouraging affected employees to explore other available job opportunities within the organization or externally.
Mercy Health has served as a hospital in Roseburg for 115 years, and it aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization through regular assessments of operational performance and necessary adjustments. The restructuring plan includes improvements in scheduling efficiencies, addressing natural employee attrition, eliminating agency positions, and reducing contract services.
The overall focus of these changes is to establish financial stability that will allow for the expansion of care services rather than a reduction in them. Currently operating as a 174-bed medical center, Mercy Health is committed to providing quality care to the community while adapting to the evolving healthcare landscape.
