Revolutionizing Speech Therapy: Samsung’s Impulse App Now Available for All Android Smartwatches

Samsung has recently announced that Impulse, a groundbreaking application that harnesses the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a vibration system to assist individuals with speech disorders such as stuttering, is now available for all Android smartwatches. This app is designed to provide physical support and discreet assistance through vibration to help individuals improve their speech rhythm.

According to Samsung, more than 1 percent of the global population, or around 70 million people, experience speech disorders that can lead to interruptions, repetitions, or prolongations in speech. To address these challenges faced by these individuals, Samsung introduced Impulse earlier this year as a free app that utilizes AI to help users enhance their speech fluency with rhythmic support provided by the smartwatch on their wrist. The app was initially released for Galaxy Watch6 smartwatches and is now accessible for download on Google Play and the Galaxy Store for watches compatible with Android 10 and higher versions.

Impulse uses an algorithm based on Natural Language Processing to analyze words and convert them into rhythmic vibrations, creating a discreet sensory pattern on the user’s wrist. This unique assistance adapts to the user’s specific speech disorder to help them improve their speech fluency and rhythm. In addition to assisting with speaking, Impulse offers over 250 rhythm and tone exercises that gradually increase in difficulty as the user progresses in their speech control. These exercises are designed to help users develop better pronunciation and intonation skills.

Developed in collaboration with Speechcare & Tartamudez Center and endorsed by various associations such as the Association of Logopedas in Spain and The Portuguese Speech Therapy Society, Impulse is part of Samsung’s Technology with Purpose program. It aims to provide innovative solutions that address some of the world’s most pressing social issues. By offering physical support through vibrations, Impulse helps individuals recognize and improve their speech rhythm, ultimately enabling them to speak more fluidly and confidently.
