Revolutionizing Detection and Tracking: How EYE-TECH’s Neuromorphic Sensor Technology Has Transformed Robotics, Automotive, and Medical Imaging

In October 2023, the Bio-inspired sensor technology challenge was launched with the goal of finding solutions in the field of neuromorphic sensors for use in Detection & Tracking applications. The challenge aimed to identify new and innovative ways to create sensors that mimic the functionality of the human eye, specifically in event-based sensors, those that replicate the dynamics of the human eye and those that use neuromorphic processing.

The winners of the challenge were awarded a 12-month contract for direct collaboration with Leonardo. Among the winners was EYE-TECH start-up from Carrara, whose project, EYE2DRIVE – Building the digital EYE, was coordinated by Monica Vatteroni and Andrea Raggi. The project aimed to develop a digital eye that could be used in various applications such as robotics, automotive and medical imaging.

During their collaboration with Leonardo, EYE-TECH used cutting-edge technology to create a digital eye that is more accurate and efficient than traditional eyes. They incorporated advanced algorithms into their design to improve image quality and reduce noise levels. Additionally, they incorporated machine learning techniques to enable real-time object detection and tracking.

The success of EYE2DRIVE has opened up new opportunities for neuromorphic sensor technology in various industries. It has paved the way for further research and development in this field and has inspired other startups to explore this area further.
