The Atlanta Falcons are looking to turn things around in the 2024 season after a disappointing 7-10 record in 2023. The team began the season with high expectations, but ultimately fell short of achieving them.
Former head coach Arthur Smith was relieved of his duties, and Raheem Morris took over as the new leader of the team. In an effort to improve their quarterback position, the Falcons signed Kirk Cousins in free agency and selected Michael Penix Jr. in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft.
Despite struggles at quarterback in recent years, Cousins is expected to elevate the passing game for Atlanta. While there may be some challenges in developing chemistry offensively, he and receivers Calvin Ridley and Drake London should provide a strong foundation for success. Defensively, there are still some uncertainties, particularly at cornerback. The team will need to integrate new players along the defensive line and find ways to improve their secondary play.
The Falcons believe they are closer than many think to ending their playoff drought, which dates back to 2016. Despite multiple blown leads last season, they have a favorable schedule for 2024 that includes games against some of the league’s toughest opponents such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Kansas City Chiefs. If they can execute on the field and overcome these challenges, Atlanta could finally return to postseason contention in 2024.
