Rediance Acquires Worldwide Distribution Rights for “The Falling Sky” Ahead of its Premiere at Cannes

Rediance, a leading international sales agent with a base in China, has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the feature documentary “The Falling Sky.” The film will make its debut at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in May, where it will be screened in the Directors Fortnight section.

“The Falling Sky,” directed by Eryk Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, focuses on the Amazonian Yanomami people as its main subjects. The movie is an adaptation of the book “The Falling Sky” by Yanomami shaman and leader Davi Kopenawa and French anthropologist Bruce Albert.

Through captivating visuals, intricate sound design, and powerful narration from Davi Kopenawa, the film explores the unique cultural practices of the Yanomami people. It also serves as a poignant critique of how their way of life has been destroyed by outsiders’ intrusion into their territory, including white prospectors and modern society.

Rocha’s tenth feature film marks his third appearance at Cannes, where he previously won the L’Oeil d’Or Award for “Cinema Novo” in 2016. Carneiro da Cunha is a Brazilian artist, theater director, performer, filmmaker, and environmental art activist who has extensive experience working in the Brazilian Amazon. Together with Rocha, she previously collaborated on “Edna” and a collection of short films directed by Yanomami filmmakers.

Produced by Aruac Filmes and co-produced by Hutukara Associação Yanomami and Stemal Entertainment with Rai Cinema, “The Falling Sky” offers an intimate look at the lives of the Yanomami people. At Cannes, Rediance will also handle Chinese-speaking territories for “Grand Tour,” a co-production project by Miguel Gomes premiering in the main competition of the Official Selection.

Rediance is committed to showcasing diverse and impactful cinema from around the world. In addition to “The Falling Sky,” they have been actively promoting recent Berlin titles such as Nele Wohlatz’s “Sleep With Your Eyes Open” and Qu Youjia’s “She Sat There Like All Ordinary Ones.” They were also involved in handling Anthony Chen’s “The Breaking Ice” last year.

Overall, Rediance continues to play an essential role in bringing unique voices to global audiences while promoting cultural diversity and understanding through cinema.
