In Eugene, Oregon, sixteen-year-old Quincy Wilson made a significant impact at the recent U.S. Olympic trials. Despite not qualifying for the 400 meters, he caught the attention of many and has now been selected to be part of Team USA’s relay pool for the upcoming Olympics in Paris.
Joe Lee, Wilson’s coach, confirmed to ESPN that Wilson will have the opportunity to run in the 4×400 relay event. After receiving a call from the committee responsible for relay pool decisions, Wilson was asked to be prepared to run any leg at any time during the race.
Wilson is a junior at Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland and will be the youngest American male track athlete at the Olympics. Excitedly sharing his news on Instagram, Wilson declared “WE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS.”
Wilson’s impressive performance at the trials earned him a spot in the relay pool due to his exceptional performance and record-breaking times. Despite finishing sixth in the finals of the 400 meters, Wilson’s outstanding performance led to calls for his inclusion in the relay team. Olympic hurdler Rai Benjamin expressed his belief that Wilson deserved this opportunity based on his outstanding performance.
In addition to his selection for the relay pool, Wilson broke under-18 world record in 400 meters which had stood for 42 years adding more excitement surrounding his selection for this event. With confidence from his coach and an impressive track record in relay races, Wilson is eagerly looking forward to representing Team USA on stage in Paris during Olympics 2024
