Richard Childress Racing announces new crew chief personnel change

Richard Childress Racing is preparing for their upcoming race at Martinsville Speedway with some competition personnel changes. Austin Dillon will be getting a new crew chief for the remainder of the season, with Justin Alexander returning to the No. 3 pit box. Alexander is taking over from Keith Rodden, who had joined RCR and the No. 3 team at the start of the 2023 season. Additionally, Joel Keller has been appointed as the lead engineer for the No. 3 team.

Martinsville Speedway holds a special significance to Hendrick Motorsports, which has won a record number of NASCAR Cup championships. The team has a strong history at this track, with past victories from drivers like Geoff, Jimmie, and now Chase Elliott.

Rodden will be transitioning to a more extensive role within the organization to help enhance the capabilities of RCR’s cars. Alexander has worked as Dillon’s crew chief on multiple occasions in the past, taking over the No. 3 team midway through the 2017 season and guiding Dillon to a win in their first race together at Coca-Cola Motor Speedway in May that year. He also led Dillon to victory at Daytona International Speedway in February 2018 during the Daytona 500 Qualifying Race, making it their second straight victory together at that track.

Andy Petree, RCR’s executive vice president, stated that these organizational changes were implemented to support RCR’s NASCAR Cup Series program as they aim to secure two spots in this year’s NASCAR Playoffs and compete for another championship title. Petree expressed gratitude towards Rodden for his leadership of the No. 3 team while acknowledging his continued contributions in his new role within RCR and its impact on helping them achieve their goals for this season.

Dillon currently sits at 28th place in the Cup standings as he heads into Martinsville but is optimistic about these changes made by his team and looking forward to showing off his new crew chief and lead engineer’s talents on track soon.
