El Paso starts National Public Health Week with a BARK!

El Paso’s Department of Public Health (DPH) is celebrating National Public Health Week from April 1-7 with a weeklong celebration aimed at educating the community, recognizing the contributions of public health, and highlighting important issues for improving public health nationwide. This year’s theme, “Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health,” emphasizes the importance of individual contributions to community and planetary health.

As part of the celebration, DPH is hosting various events throughout the week in El Paso. On Tuesday, they organized walks across the city to promote healthy neighborhoods. They held a Doggie Walk at Joey Barraza and Vino Memorial Park and a Glow Walk at Vista del Valle Park, with activities and raffles. The schedule for the rest of the week includes a Franklin Mountains Trail Clean up on Wednesday, educational topics for senior citizens at the Fabens Senior Center on Thursday, a Sexual Reproductive Health presentation at the Pride Center on Friday, and an Emergency Preparedness Carnival at Armijo Library on Saturday.

The events throughout the week aim to engage the community in activities that promote biodiversity, climate change resilience, use of innovative tools in public health, and preparedness for emergencies. For more information on the events and to get involved
