Protect Yourself from the Flu: Importance of Annual Vaccinations and Preventative Measures in Vietnam

In Vietnam, influenza cases can occur year-round, with peaks in March-April and September-October. Despite the tropical monsoon climate, flu shots are still necessary during the hot season to prevent illness and its complications. Studies show that flu vaccination can reduce the death rate by 70-80% and decrease hospitalizations and complications related to the flu. Vaccination is particularly important for pregnant women, as it can reduce the risk of hospitalization, stillbirth, and premature birth.

Flu viruses change throughout the year, which is why an annual flu shot is necessary. In Vietnam, there are various types of influenza vaccines available, including quadrivalent and trivalent vaccines to protect against different strains of the virus. Pregnant women are recommended to get flu shots in the second or third trimester to protect themselves and their newborns.

When flu symptoms appear, it’s important to take precautions such as avoiding crowded places, wearing a mask, and avoiding contact with high-risk individuals. Resting properly, eating a healthy diet, and staying hydrated can help the body recover from the illness more quickly. It’s also important for pregnant women to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms of the flu as it can lead to serious complications for both mother and baby.
