Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen suffered minor injuries after being physically assaulted by a 39-year-old man in downtown Copenhagen four weeks ago. The incident occurred as she was walking to meet a friend for coffee. The man, a Polish citizen living in Denmark, has been charged with the assault and will face trial at the Copenhagen District Court on August 6 and 7.
Frederiksen’s lawyer confirmed the charges and stated that his client is innocent of the allegations. However, investigators believe that the man may have been under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs at the time of the attack. It is not clear whether this was a planned political motive or not.
As a result of her injuries, Frederiksen had to cancel several scheduled appointments following the attack. While she is recovering, she remains committed to continuing her work as Prime Minister and serving her country to the best of her ability.
