At 10:17 a.m., Normal Police received a call about an individual armed with a knife in the 200 block of Susan Drive. Officers immediately surrounded the person and initiated communication, successfully de-escalating the situation by 11:40 a.m. The police department’s crisis negotiation team, Illinois State University Police, and McLean County Sheriff’s Office were all present at the scene.
At 12:20 P.M., Normal Police issued an update stating that the scene was secure and no longer active, with no threats to the public and no reported injuries. The public was advised to avoid the area of Susan and Parkway Plaza drives due to the ongoing situation, as well as staying away from nearby businesses for safety reasons.
