Penczner Legacy: Upholding Research Excellence and Early-Career Support in Memphis through Philanthropy.

The Penczners, a Hungarian-born couple living in Memphis, were part of a lively community of Central European expats. This group also included Dr. Gabor Tigyi, a fellow Hungarian and chair of the Department of Physiology at UT Health Science Center.

Their fascination with Tigyi’s work led the Penczners to entrust him with their estate and create two legacy funds aimed at upholding research excellence and providing early-career support in the physiology department. These bequests champion young scientists and ensure opportunities for non-native scholars in Memphis.
