Parliamentary Elections of 2023: A Fight to the Finish for Political Parties, Leaving Some Losers in Their Wake

The parliamentary elections of 2023 were marked by fierce competition between political parties, with many incumbent deputies fighting for re-election. Despite their efforts, some did not succeed and are now considered losers. Among them are the Social Democrats, who were founded in the fall of 2022 after a split within the party. The voters decided that there was no longer a place for them in the legislative representative body, leading to their defeat in the elections.

The Homeland Movement, despite being the third political force in the country, failed to gain enough trust from voters to win a mandate in the third constituency. Davor Dretar Drele, an entertainer who won 4,703 preferential votes, also lost his parliamentary seat. Katarina Peović and Karolina Vidović Kristo, vocal critics of the ruling party, will no longer be seen in parliamentary debates. The Reformists, who had one mandate in the last convocation, will also not have a representative in Parliament this time.

Bojan Glavašević, a former independent representative who ran on the Rijeka pravde list and won 6.5 percent of preferential votes, also lost his seat. His name is on the list for the European Parliament, so his defeat in the parliamentary elections does not mean farewell to politics entirely. Ermina Lekaj Prljaskaj, representing the Albanian national minority, also said goodbye to her parliamentary seat.
