PARKERSBURG — The Municipal Preparing Commission on Friday rejected an application from a man asking to have his family members members house removed from Parkersburg’s city limits.

But Dan Vaught pointed out he plans to retain pushing for the alter, arguing the household never ever ever ought to have been in the city.

In his application to the commission, Vaught pointed out the annexation was “done against the owners’ will.”

City officials dispute that, saying 2010 Vaught Terrace was aspect of the annexation of south Parkersburg authorized by voters in 1950. Vaught maintains it didn’t happen till about 1980, when an more resident had his household annexed into the city.

“My parents certainly have been unhappy when that occurred,” he pointed out. “They have been never ever ever told about it till following it was performed.”

City Planner Connor LaVelle pointed out there have been no formal complaints on record. He also noted that Vaught’s late parents routinely paid their city charges.

“My parents paid what ever bills came in due to the truth that is the sort of males and ladies they have been,” Vaught pointed out.

LaVelle pointed out Vaught is delinquent on city charges and has told the Finance Division it is due to the truth “there is a boundary dispute.”

“As lengthy as the household is in the city, charges will be assessed,” LaVelle pointed out.

Vaught told commission members that he receives no benefit from becoming in the city, other than trash service, and he could use a break on the charges due to the truth he is on a fixed income.

Commission member John Reed pointed out Vaught would primarily be saving money by remaining in the city due to the truth “the county fire charge would be bigger than the city fire charge.”

In his application, Vaught noted the lack of a fire hydrant on his road. Fire Chief Jason Matthews pointed out in a memo on the application that fire trucks have water tanks on them and a hydrant on South Lake Drive could provide water in the occasion that more is important. A hydrant will be added nearby on Newberry Drive as aspect of an upcoming water project, he pointed out.

Vaught pointed out he believed the process would be a formality and he had not brought documentation supporting his claims. Assistant City Lawyer Rob Tebay asked him to make it if he could.

The commission voted 7-, with four members absent, to reject the petition. Tebay told Vaught that would be the finish of the matter unless he could get three Parkersburg City Council members to sponsor the item on their agenda.

Right away immediately after the meeting, Vaught pointed out he would operate on that and also retain counsel to aid him.

Commission member Luke Peters pointed out he voted against the petition due to the truth there was no proof the household wasn’t annexed legally.

“Even the males and ladies that voted against it (in 1950) have been nonetheless in,” he pointed out.

Tebay pointed out this was the extremely initially petition to be removed from the city limits he could recall in his virtually 30 years operating for the city.

“We’ve had a lot of annexations, and in that identical neighborhood,” he pointed out.
