Following a hack that occurred early last year, OpenAI employees have shared information about the design of AI technology on an online forum. Sources from The New York Times reported that the hacker did not have access to the systems where the AI applications are stored and built.
OpenAI executives revealed the incident to employees during an April 2023 meeting and informed the board of directors about it as well. Despite concerns regarding national security, the decision was made to keep the incident confidential because no customer or partner information was compromised. Regulatory authorities were not notified about the breach either.
Some OpenAI employees expressed concerns following the news that a country like China could potentially steal the AI technology, leading to a compromise in the national security of the United States. The incident also raised questions about the security measures in place at OpenAI. Reuters reached out to OpenAI for a response but has not yet received a reply.
