BOONE, Iowa — North Union senior Olivia Von Bank almost earned all-state person honors for the duration of her initial-ever look at the Iowa Class 1A golf tournament at Cedar Pointe Golf Course.

Von Bank penciled in an opening-round of 46-42-88 on Thursday to earn a share of seventh location out of the 74-player girls field in Boone, Iowa.

Von Bank generated a steady mix of pars, connecting for half of her eight for the duration of Day 1 on Nos. two, four, five and 7. The North Union senior standout then closed with a robust overall performance, highlighted by pars on Nos. 11, 14, 15 and 18 on Thursday.

Von Bank followed with a second-round score of 51-47-98 to cap her two-day state outing with a 186 to capture 13th location individually on Friday. Von Bank netted pars on Nos. 11 and 12 to close out her esteemed higher college golf profession.

“Three strokes and 3 areas from a prime-ten displaying and all-state recognition. That is quite superior for her initial time playing at state,” stated Warriors’ assistant coach — and Olivia’s proud father — Jack Von Bank. “Now it is back to Swea City tonight to play softball against Forest City.

“There’s no rest for Iowa higher college athletes,” Jack Von Bank stated with a chuckle.

Grundy Center’s Abbie Lindeman overcame a two-shot deficit immediately after Thursday’s opening round to nip New London’s Taylor Phillips for the Iowa Class 1A state girls golf championship. Lindeman fired a Day 1 score of 80 just before rallying for a 79 on Friday to eke out the 159-160 selection more than Phillips. Phillips carded a runner-up mark of 78-82.

Bishop Garrigan golfer Avery Lichter climbed a single spot immediately after Day 1 to capture the bronze medal at Cedar Pointe Golf Course on Friday. Lichter closed her two-day occasion with a third-location 86-82-168.
