Newcastle had been looking to sell their Player of the Year, Anthony Gordon, to raise funds before June 30 in order to avoid penalties for breaching financial rules. However, Liverpool ultimately decided not to pursue a deal with Newcastle despite admiring Gordon.
The club valued Quansah highly as an established first-team player and a potential future England international. Additionally, Liverpool felt they had adequate depth in Gordon’s position on the left wing with players like Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez available.
Despite their interest in Quansah, Newcastle is actively looking to make changes to their squad before the deadline in order to improve their performance on the field and comply with financial regulations. Gordon had a successful season with 11 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League after his £45m move in January 2023. Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles were key players for Newcastle that got injured, highlighting their need to strengthen their defense.
