Greenfield and West Allis health departments to consolidate

The merger between the Greenfield Health Department and the West Allis Health Department aims to provide more efficient and comprehensive public health services to the communities of West Allis and Greenfield. The common councils of both cities have approved the merger, creating a unified entity that will be known as the Southwest Suburban Health Department.

Mayor Dan Devine of West Allis highlighted the long-standing collaboration between the two departments, emphasizing the benefits of formalizing their mutual approach through the creation of this new department. Mayor Michael Neitzke of Greenfield echoed these sentiments, mentioning that the merger will enable a more streamlined and focused delivery of community and environmental health services to all residents.

The Southwest Suburban Health Department will operate under an intergovernmental agreement for a five-year term, with a joint board of health overseeing its operations. Funding for the department will come from both cities as well as state health grants. The goal is to deliver a more strategic and effective approach to meeting the needs of the public in these communities.
