New NFL Trade Deadline Date Set for 2024 Season: How it Will Impact Teams and Players

The NFL trade deadline has been extended until after Week 9.

In a major change for the NFL, the trade deadline will be moved to the Tuesday after Week 9 starting in the 2024 season, following approval during the NFL’s annual meetings. The initial proposal to move the deadline back two weeks after Week 10 was submitted by Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry and supported by the Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders. However, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers’ proposal to push it back only one week that received the necessary three-fourths approval to pass.

One of the reasons behind Berry’s proposal was to give teams more flexibility as they head into the second half of the regular season. It was also aimed at maintaining the competitive integrity of the season and providing teams with more time before deciding to sell off their roster.
