Nolan Harvath, who has been working with the West Virginia strength and conditioning staff since December 2020, was officially named the new director of sports performance for Lady Vols basketball. Harvath and Lady Vols basketball coach Kim Caldwell previously worked together at Division II Glenville State.
Caldwell expressed her excitement about the hiring of Harvath, stating that he understands the team’s goals and is dedicated to helping them become the hardest working team in the country. She is confident that Harvath will push the team to improve every day. Harvath replaces Bryan Tatum, who was not kept on from the previous staff.
Harvath most recently worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the WVU football team, starting in the spring of 2022. He was initially brought in to work with the baseball and golf programs. Before his time at West Virginia, Harvath served as the director of strength and conditioning at Glenville State from 2018-2020, where he also held the title of assistant athletic director from 2019-2020.
A native of Fairmont, West Virginia, Harvath graduated with a degree in exercise science from the University of Southern Indiana in 2013. He went on to earn a master’s degree in athletic coaching education from WVU in 2016. Harvath began his career as a strength and conditioning coach at the high school level, working at both East Fairmont High and Morgantown High from 2013-2017. He also gained experience working with Pro Performance in Morgantown.
Harvath’s career path eventually led him to WVU, where he served as a strength and conditioning intern before joining the football team staff. He also worked as a consultant for the University of Charleston baseball team from 2016-
